The refurbishment of a £5 million shopping centre was the perfect opportunity for Hunter Douglas to once again demonstrate their expertise in design and manufacture of the intricate metal ceilings. The entire Mall in Maidstone was overhauled during a 12 month period were all key aspects of the building went through a modernization programme. This involved updating entrances, new ceiling and lights, and a new treatment of pillars along side a new contemporary flooring. A herringbone pattern was key to the £200,000 ceiling project specified to Hunter Douglas. Architect William Lee at ESA LTD selected an eye catching colour palette for the pattern and using the contemporary colours RAL 9010/1035/1036/2013 the upgraded shopping centre now reflected a modern design. The design itself was a complex, intricate design and this meant the construction of the ceiling needed to be carefully considered in order for the finished article to reflect the vision of the architect. The installation contractor Roskel Contracts Ltd was able to complete the work within two months. The National sales Manger for Hunter Douglas, Juliette Halliday said the company’s expertise in baffling systems was also showcased in the ceiling project completed at Maidstone. It had worked well for other large projects at sites consisting of conference centres, airports and sports stadia, including offices, healthcare and retail environments. “Because it is so versatile, we were able to use a standard system and adapt to a bespoke design and colour option for the specifier,” said Juliette. “The result is a very aesthetically pleasing ceiling.”
